Making Of

In fact, the occasion of the short movie Beles is the youth festival in Mannheim. Hence, it is a low-budget production.   Nevertheless we set value on high-quality backdrop, authentic actors as well as a good story.

Within three days, the performers Merhawit Fessihaie and Tedros Teclebrhan and the producer Esayas Gebremedhin elaborated the story fulgurous under convulsive laughter. Indeed, this enabled a better identification with the figures and the entire project. During the story writing, there was an euphoria which imparted a profound satire character to the movie.

By developing a storyboard, which defined the sound, camera angle and the dialogues, we could work more efficient, although we had just two shooting days. Actually the shooting days are the climax of the production. Because of Teddi's outstanding performance, some scenes were so funny, that one scene had to be shot up to 8 times. Teddi could switch from the traditional and dominant father over to the short spoken and uptight son Michael.

During the selection of the location an apartment of three friends was convenient for us, as it was aesthetic arranged and it offered enough space for traditional accessories. Thanks to Jimmy for providing his 3-Chip camera and for his assessment of the realization and importance of the short movie.
